Kimberly Benson is the Vice President and co-owner of Cange International, Inc., an export management company and international business consultancy based in San Diego, California. Cange International specializes in assisting manufacturers with the commencement, expansion and management of their international distribution networks. In addition to export management Cange International, Inc. provides advisory services on a broad range of topics including export transaction structuring and export finance.
Ms. Benson is also the head of the Solutions through Trade initiative of Bridge Consultancy, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, focused on bringing product and service solutions from the United States to the Middle East/Africa region in the sectors of infrastructure, healthcare, education and security.
She is a Director of Interlink Capital Strategies (www.interlinkdc.com, Arlington, Virginia), focused on providing trade finance and project finance for emerging markets worldwide and is also a Director of TradeUp (www.tradeupfund.com, Los Angeles, California), an innovative online platform connecting small and midsized exporters to accredited investors.
Prior to joining Cange International in 1991 Ms. Benson served as Senior Marketing Representative for the export credit insurance division of the Export Import Bank of the United States, where she was recognized as the top salesperson in the nation. Ms. Benson formerly resided in Buenos Aires, Argentina where she developed sales in U.S. and European markets for Consultores Economicos Financieros, an Argentine consulting firm and trading company. She has assisted U.S. manufacturers with establishing joint ventures for marketing and/or manufacturing operations in Brazil, Central America and the Caribbean. She is fluent in Spanish.
In 2007 she was appointed by U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez to serve on the Industry Trade Advisory Committee on Small and Minority Business (ITAC 11) in Washington, D.C. She currently serves the Committee’s Secondary Vice Chair. She is recognized for her expertise in export finance and on the topic of international trade specifically as it relates to small business.
In 2002 Ms. Benson was recognized with a San Diego Women Who Mean Business award. In 2006 she received the Essence of World Trade award, the World Trade Center San Diego’s highest individual achievement award. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Westmont College (Santa Barbara, California) and a Masters degree in International Business Administration from West Coast University (Los Angeles, California).
